Woodard Schools from across the country came together to celebrate the Eucharist at Denstone College on Wednesday 10th September. The occasion was the installation of the new Senior Provost, the Revd Dr Matt Bullimore. Pupils, staff, chaplains, fellows and governors celebrated together as the President, the Rt Revd Dr John Inge, presided. The choir of Denstone College and the choir of The Prep at Denstone College helped lift our worship and fill the chapel with music. The prayers were sensitively led by Year 13 pupils, Ted and Amelia. During the service, Matt was presented by the Chair, Dr Eve Poole, and installed by Bishop John in the Provost’s Chair. The sermon was delivered by Matt in which he spoke of the importance of offering a good education to form children of the light in a world where there are many other people trying to form us in ways opposed to the Gospel. He made his point by referencing Nathaniel Woodard, G. K. Chesterton, Sabine Baring-Gould and, much to everyone’s surprise, Ozzy Osbourne. Afterwards, the kitchens at Denstone served us a wonderful buffet in the Fellows’ Room.

Many thanks to Darren (the Chaplain), Lotte (the Head), Denise (the Admin Team Manager), and to everyone who made such a positive occasion possible.

Members of the Woodard family present came from: Ellesmere College, Denstone College, The Prep at Denstone College, St Peter and St Paul School, Alderley Edge School for Girls, Bloxham School, St Peter’s CofE Academy, The Peterborough School, Prestfelde School, Queen Mary’s School, Worksop College, and Ranby House.
