Woodard Christmas Card Competition 2025

Woodard Christmas Card Competition 2025

We received an overwhelming number of entries for the Woodard Christmas Card Competition 2025. Schools from across the Woodard family fielded Christmas cards entries and we are hugely grateful to all of you who were able to participate. We would also like to thank the Art teachers for their dedication in organising the creation and submission of the entries.

The judges were thoroughly impressed by the creative thinking and artistic skill displayed by pupils of all ages. Some pupils chose to use and develop more traditional iconography, while others offered other thoughtful and innovative interpretations of the theme ‘Jesus, the Light of the World, is Born Among Us’. It was very good to see such keen theological imaginations at work and to see how pupils understand what it means for Jesus to be born as one of us and yet offering light to a dark world.

So, most of all, we’re grateful to all the pupils who sent in such brilliant Christmas card designs and engaged so fully with the competition!

OVERALL WINNER Alice Mackay Denstone College L6

Winning entry – Alice Mackay (Lower 6th at Denstone College)

The winning entry came from Alice Mackay who is in the Lower 6th at Denstone College. Her image, a lino print, features a baby wrapped in a blanket set on a golden pattern.

The Revd Dr Matt Bullimore, the Senior Provost, said: ‘We were taken by the simplicity of the image of the baby – which could be any baby – and which spoke of the humanity and vulnerability of the Christ-child. Children are victims of war-zones and poverty across the world, and Jesus himself was born under occupation and under the threat of violence. He was born among us as one of us.

Alice superimposes the baby upon a rich golden pattern. This child, who is one of us, is also a child with a glorious background. He comes from light to be a light to the world. His humanity does not obscure the light. The divine light shines into the world through his human acts of love and service, and through the beauty of his relationships with others.’

There were so many entries that we just couldn’t fit them all on the website or exhibit them all at Worksop College but here we have selected 20 other images that give a sense of the richness of the competition entries.

The complete list of prize-winners is:

Oxbridge Taster Day

Oxbridge Taster Day

Nathaniel Woodard saw his mission as the transforming of society through education based on sound Christian principles. Society – and the Church – needs good theology. Serving the wider theological academy must surely be part of our mission today. To that end, a large group of Year 10 and Year 12 pupils from our schools across the North West converged on Crompton House Church of England School in Oldham in June for an Oxbridge Theology & Religion taster day and masterclass.
