Denstone College Prep School in Uttoxeter had a special guest visit to officially open their new astro pitch, Olympic GB Hockey Player Shona McCallin MBE. Shona is a member of Great Britain women’s national field hockey team and was an Olympic gold medallist at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She will be defending her medal at Tokyo 2020.
DCPS are delighted to have their long awaited astro all weather pitch completed and available to play on after a long wait. The Headmaster, Mr Gear, said, “This marks a turning point in our field games playing ability. We will no longer be weather-bound. The children will be able to improve their fast hockey skills inline with some of the schools whom they play against. I know that the PE Staff agree with me, and the parents are also extremely pleased.
“It was an honour to have Shona visit and open this fabulous facility for us. She is a remarkable young lady, who took the time out to answer a huge amount of questions, and pose for photos with the children.“ She also took a 30 minute coaching session with our older children, illustrating her natural ability as a teacher and obviously her skills as a world class hockey player.”
