Exeter Cathedral School is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr James Featherstone to be Headmaster from January 2016. James is currently Head of Lower School and a part of the 3-18 Leadership Team of The Perse School in Cambridge. He is a graduate of Durham University where he studied Modern Languages and undertook his PGCE. During his PGCE training in Durham he was also a Choral Scholar in Durham Cathedral. James is married to Julia, who is Assistant Director of Music at the Stephen Perse Foundation in Cambridge and a singer. They have two children, William and Georgina.
In anticipation of coming to the school, James has written “I am delighted and honoured to be appointed the next Headmaster of Exeter Cathedral School. I was struck by a strong sense of community and purpose when I visited ECS, and by the warmth and kindness of the people that I met. The School’s commitment to first-class pastoral care, to academic endeavour, extra-curricular involvement and a world-class musical education – and its focus on really knowing each of its pupils as individuals – chimes entirely with my own values and approach, and I look forward enormously to building on the outstanding work of Stephen and Cathy Yeo. Julia, William, Georgina and I are excited to be moving after Christmas to live and work amongst the School and Cathedral communities. We are thrilled to be joining such a special place.”
Exeter Cathedral School is a thriving independent school and is the oldest school in the city. It has 300 children on its roll, including the 36 boy and girl choristers who sing Evensong daily in the Cathedral, as well as taking part in a wide range of musical outreach projects and concerts.
