Lancing College has sustained a good A Level performance in 2017 with 75.4% of grades achieved as A* to B.
- Half of all grades achieved were A* or A
- Five pupils have successfully gained a place at Oxford or Cambridge
- Average UCAS Score is 151 in excess of 3 As
- 100% of pupils gained an A* to B grade in their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), over half of them at A* grade
- Nearly 10% of students will be going to study Medicine or Biomedical Sciences; other popular subjects being studied include: Economics, Statistics and Mathematics, English, Law and various Engineering courses.
These results further reinforce Lancing’s strong reputation for consistently high academic achievement, year-on-year at A Level and with exceptional performances this year in Maths, English, History and the Sciences.
Commenting on the results Dominic Oliver, Head Master said “I am delighted at the results this year; pupils across the country have been the first to experience the new A Level reforms and we are extremely proud of the way in which our pupils have risen to the challenge. We have seen exceptional results from pupils who have been at Lancing since the age of 13 as well as those who joined us just for the Sixth Form. Lancing is a place of scholarship where pupils learn with integrity. We teach our students to be curious and to think deeply, for themselves and for the right reasons, underpinned by the essential attributes of learning. Our excellent exam results are a wonderful by-product of the profound and long-lasting scholarly rigour that is the foundation of all that we do. Our role at Lancing is to ensure academic excellence and to prepare our pupils to enter the next stage of their lives, independent, confident and self-aware. We spend a great deal of time supporting our pupils to find the right courses for them and it is also a real pleasure to see how many will be going to their first choice university.”
Here are just some of the results and destinations that have been chosen by A Level pupils from Lancing College:
- Maudie Cooper (Horsham) is going to Oxford to read English having achieved A*s in English Literature and History along with an A grade in Latin.
- Sophie Hanna (Horsham) is going to Exeter to read Industrial Economics having gained an A* in Economics and A grades in Mathematics and History. Sophie is the youngest of a trio of highly able sisters, all of whom attended Lancing.
- Henry Steele (Hove) is going to Oxford to study Mathematics having attained A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Additional Further Mathematics as well as an A grade in Physics.
- Elise Kearsey (Petworth) is going to study Neuroscience at Edinburgh having achieved an ABB in RS, Biology and Chemistry. Elise was Head Girl and also actively involved in music, sport and drama whilst at Lancing.
- Alvaro Aspden (Hove) is going to Sheffield to read Mechanical Engineering and German having achieved an A*AAB.
- Will Jefferies (Littlehampton) is going to UCL to study Natural Sciences having gained an A* and three As. Deputy Head Boy Will was actively involved in drama, winning the playwriting contest at the school as well as being a brilliant scientist.
- Conrad Lewis (Steyning) is going to Exeter to read Geography having achieved three As.
