Talented musician Maisie O was delighted to discover she has been selected for the National Youth Choir, the most prestigious choir for young choral singers in the UK.

The senior choir of NYCGB is an elite group of 18 to 22-year-olds who perform a unique year-round training and performance programme, referred to as the National Youth Choir Annual Programme. They work with and are inspired by world-class musicians and coaches, and record new work and perform special commissions by up-and-coming young composers. The Choir is also part of major national and international events, concerts and festivals, performing at high profile venues including the Royal Albert Hall.

The choral ensemble groups at King’s College were the perfect preparation for Maisie. Weekly rehearsals in the Music School and a busy calendar of events provided Maisie with performance experience and expert tuition. The school also offers choral scholarships for Third Form and Sixth Form entry which are designed to provide exceptional opportunities for talented singers to explore and refine their skills in choral singing. The scholarships will provide access to King’s College’s diverse and exciting music department, which caters to musicians of all tastes and styles.

Our Director of Music said: “The audition process for the Youth Choir is rigorous and places are highly prized place. It is an incredible opportunity for Maisie to develop her musical talents and broaden her experience, and we are immensely proud of Maisie’s achievement.”

King’s College offers a variety of routes for pupils to explore their musical passions, including weekly lessons from their superb team of instrumental teachers and opportunities to perform within the school and at out-of-school events. The Chapel Choir, a 45-strong robed choir, sings both church and cathedral repertoire each week at Eucharist. The choir also sings a termly Evensong and Compline as well as services at local churches and cathedrals. King’s College is a member of the RSCM and provides tuition to progress through their medal system, an excellent grounding for choral scholarship applications at university.
