On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 March, King’s College pupils and staff – led by King Alfred House – cycled a total of 5655 miles in 34 hours (day and night) to raise funds for Cancer Research. 5655 miles is the distance from Taunton to Rio de Janeiro – the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Ten exercise bikes were provided by Nuffield Health Club in Taunton, and were placed in the Reception area. Pupils and staff took on the challenge, many completing several hours (with the aid of cushions to ease the discomfort of time spent in the saddle!)

Commenting on this fantastic achievement, King Alfred House Housemaster Sam Florey said “The atmosphere surrounding the event was brilliant. Everybody involved showed grit and determination as well as real comradery and support to help keep each other going. Over £5000 has been raised for Cancer Research UK. I would like to thank everyone who has supported the event in any way and say in particular, how proud I am of all the boys in King Alfred House for all their hard work.”
