The warm sounds of Christmas rang loud and clear through Taunton Racecourse last week as the King’s College brass group serenaded race-goers with traditional Yuletide carols.

The talented band, consisting of pupils Anastasia Woodard, Henry Adcock, Holly Ambler, Matthew Osbourne, Oscar Willis, Patrick McSwiggan, Timothy Roberts and Tom Hall, entertained the crowd with songs including Away in a Manger and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

In celebration of the Festive Race Day, the school was also delighted to sponsor the King’s College Taunton Novices’ Hurdle, which saw 10-11 favourite Brahms de Clermont gain a third victory of the campaign.

Richard Biggs, Headmaster at King’s College, along with his wife, Sarah Biggs, and Head of Equestrian, Emma Edwards presented Brian Nicholls with the winner’s trophy.

Commenting on the day’s events, Biggs said: “Our Christmas day at the races has now become an annual tradition. King’s College is delighted to sponsor a race, and our musicians enjoy their chance to entertain the crowds. It is also a brilliant excuse for a Headmaster to escape from a very busy final week of term!”
