An independent school in Marchington has attained a 100 per cent pass rate. Out of 24 Year Six pupils who sat the entrance exam into Denstone College, all 24 have been offered places, and 14 scholarships and exhibitions were awarded. The average score attained by the pupils was a very impressive 74 per cent, with some pupils achieving almost full marks in order to be awarded an academic scholarship.

The exam entrance procedure can be tough for pupils, consisting of English, Maths and Science Papers and an interview with a senior member of staff, possibly the headmaster, Mr Derbyshire.

In addition, where applicable, pupils can be assessed on their music, art, drama or sporting abilities and, if successful, will receive scholarships or exhibitions for tuition.

Jerry Gear, headmaster of Denstone College Prep School, said, “Not only am I amazingly proud of all the children’s achievement’s, but there was one child who had originally failed a practice paper, but then worked his socks off over six weeks and managed to improve his mark by 30%, enough to record an impressive pass. It has given me immense pleasure to see what the children can achieve with sheer determination.”

David Derbyshire, headmaster of Denstone College is equally pleased with the results, “Once again Denstone College Preparatory School pupils have performed exceptionally well in the entrance examinations – well done, everyone! We look forward to welcoming you all in September!”
