Thirteen year-old Abigail Horton from Ardingly College has won the overall Junior Prize at the Woodard School’s Musician of the Year competition in the prestigious venue of St John’s Smith Square, London.  Abigail gave a beautiful Debussy piano performance, a highly significant achievement.  Abigail said afterwards:  “It was such an experience to play in this spectacular place.  All the performers were outstanding – so winning was like jumping up and never coming down!”

Four other Ardingly pupils took part in the finals on Saturday, 9th May; Alice Ertl, Cameron McEwen, Monika Stadelmeier and  Franziska Lordick  were among 30 finalists drawn from a highly competitive field of students from the independent and state schools nationwide which make up the Woodard Corporation.  Ardingly has a fine record of success in the competition, having won both the junior and senior prizes in the past.  Director of Music, Robert Costin, said:  “All the Ardingly students this year performed to the highest musical and technical standards and were a great credit to the College.”
